For my degree program at Full Sail (Digital Cinematography) we have the choice to do either an internship (24 or more hours) or make a short film. This internship or project needs to done by our 14th month.

My original plan was to do an internship, instead of a short film, because I thought an internship would look better on my resume. Unfortunately, most internships around here (Chicago) start in the summer, at least for the bigger companies. It’s also somewhat cut throat, because we don’t have many film companies located here, but we do have several big film schools (e.g. DePaul University, Columbia college). So, lots of students all competing for the same place. As far as videography, I do that myself. It didn’t make sense for me to do an unpaid internship, at this type of company.

So I ended up doing a short film...

I had a couple of other ideas in mind, but was having difficulty scheduling with the organizations I wanted to do a video on. Alex, the young man I did the music promo for, is actually a co-worker's son. He had come in several times to record in the studio’s where I work. I had worked with him a few times, setting up equipment. I heard some of his stuff and thought he had a very interesting stage personality.  He was gracious enough to agree to do this project on a very tight timeline (all while graduating high school and starting a part time job)!

Troubleshooting Lights

6/19/2017

My assignment for Location Lighting this week was to set up two shots with the same lighting. One of these shots would be with my lighting kick. The other would be with just household lights. This was to simulate a troubleshooting situation where your professional lighting break on a shoot. I chose Suspense Lighting, due to size of the room and because I thought I could improve upon what I did the previous week.
Over all, since we were in such a small space, I liked the look of the Troubleshooting layout better.
